Technical Notes: This time I used my Canon 7D – it needed some love, and the 70-200mm lens. For lighting I used a 430EX II speedlight. No photoshop except to sharpen.
Determination. I knew there was only one possible subject for this month’s Blog Circle topic, but we’ve been so busy here, that I wasn’t sure I’d have the opportunity to shoot for it. Then, unexpectedly, during her six year portrait shoot, it happened. At the end of the session she said, “Mommy, get one of me jumping!” So I did. She ran over to look at the LCD screen, and said, “I don’t like it. Again!”, and she ran back. I’m not sure how many more takes we did, but after each one, she would run over and see if it met her “high” (I am so freaking funny!) expectations. She was determined to get it right. Finally, she said, “That one is good. I’m hungry, let’s go home.” I love her.

Technical Notes: For these images I used my Canon 5D Mark II with the 70-200mm lens. I also used a Speedlite (which I am falling in love with!) Simple black and white conversion done in photoshop, and a touch of levels manipulation with the last image.

This month’s Blog Circle theme is “Texture”. A little better than “Colors of Summer”, but not much, and I kept putting off shooting. When I finally picked up my camera, I shot what has been on my mind.

Yes, the theme of the month is “Colors of Summer”. Those of you who know me best are roaring with laughter. This theme is so far from “me”, and it was difficult to get into to. I kept trying to find a way to make it emotional, but my brain wouldn’t drop the ‘color’ thing, so here it is. If you missed the first Blog Circle Post – read it here!

Technical Note: To capture these images I used a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 85mm, Canon 70-200mm. I popped the color saturation in Camera RAW. The selective Black and White was done in both Camera RAW and Photoshop.
A couple of months ago I was added to a military spouse photographer networking group on facebook. Immediately, someone suggested a blog circle, and a few of us thought that was a fantastic idea! Designed to force photographers to focus on a personal project, a blog circle consists of several photographers. Each photographer takes a given theme, interprets it through images, and creates a blog post with those images. The post also includes a link to the next photographer’s blog, so it gives readers an interesting perspective on how different photographers can see topics so differently. Our first topic is “A Day in the Life” and, because my life is pretty boring, so is my post, but I think it captures an accurate portrayal. 🙂 I am going to try to do my posts with no explanation of the images, because I’m trying to become a better storyteller with photos. Enjoy!

Technical Note: For these images I used: Canon 7D body, Canon 5D Mark II body, Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens, Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. Post processing included levels adjustments for a few (sunrise, path images), black and white gradient, and sharpening for the web.
